Payment Methods

Dear uses Stripe to process all payments securely. This guide covers the payment methods we accept and how to manage them.

Accepted Payment Methods

Dear accepts the following payment methods through Stripe:

Credit & Debit Cards

  • Visa

  • Mastercard

  • American Express

  • Discover

  • UnionPay

Digital Wallets

Depending on your browser and device:

  • Apple Pay

  • Google Pay

Bank Payments

Available in some regions:

  • Direct debit

  • Bank transfers

The exact options shown at checkout depend on your location and the payment methods available in your region.

Adding a Payment Method

During Subscription Checkout

When you subscribe to a plan:

  1. Go to your Profile > Subscription tab

  2. Or navigate to the Subscription page

  3. Select a subscription tier

  4. You’ll be redirected to Stripe’s secure checkout

  5. Enter your card details or choose a digital wallet

  6. Complete the payment

Your payment method is saved automatically for future billing.

For Template Purchases

When purchasing a template:

  1. Click Purchase on the template

  2. Select your event size

  3. Complete checkout through Stripe

  4. Your payment method is used for this purchase

Managing Payment Methods

To update or change your payment method:

  1. Go to your Profile page

  2. Click on the Subscription tab

  3. Click Manage Billing

  4. You’ll be taken to the Stripe billing portal

  5. From there you can:

    • Add a new payment method

    • Remove existing payment methods

    • Set a default payment method

Payment Security

All payments are processed securely through Stripe:

  • PCI Compliant - Stripe maintains the highest level of PCI compliance

  • Encrypted - All card data is encrypted in transit and at rest

  • Never Stored by Dear - Your full card details never touch our servers

Dear only receives confirmation that payment was successful and basic details like the last 4 digits of your card for your reference.

Failed Payments

If a payment fails:

For Subscriptions

  • Stripe will retry the payment automatically

  • You’ll receive an email notification

  • Your subscription remains active during the retry period

  • Update your payment method in the billing portal if needed

For One-Time Purchases

  • The purchase won’t complete

  • Try again with a different payment method

  • Contact your bank if the issue persists

Currency

All prices are displayed and charged in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). Your bank may apply currency conversion fees if your card is in a different currency.

Receipts

After each successful payment:

  • A receipt is emailed to your account email

  • Receipts are also available in the billing portal
