Browsing Templates

Templates are the foundation of your event invitations in Dear. Each template includes beautifully designed invitations, pre-written messages, and RSVP forms tailored to specific event types. This guide explains how to browse and find the perfect template for your event.

Where to Find Templates

There are two ways to browse templates:

1. Template Gallery (Public Website)

Visit the template gallery on the Dear website at /collections. Here you can:

  • Browse all available templates

  • Preview template designs

  • Filter by event type

  • View pricing options

This is the best place to discover new templates, especially if you’re not yet sure what you need.

2. My Templates (In-App)

Once logged in, go to Templates in the sidebar. This page shows:

  • Subscribers: All available templates in the system

  • Non-subscribers: Templates you’ve purchased or added to your collection

Filtering Templates

By Event Type

Templates are organised by event type. Common categories include:

  • Weddings - Formal and casual wedding invitations

  • Birthdays - For milestone celebrations of all ages

  • Anniversaries - Celebrating years together

  • Baby Showers - Welcome new arrivals

  • Corporate Events - Professional gatherings and functions

  • Parties - General celebrations and get-togethers

Click on an event type to see only templates in that category.

By Tags

Templates may have tags that describe their style or theme, such as:

  • Elegant

  • Modern

  • Rustic

  • Minimalist

  • Floral

  • Classic

Look for tag filters to narrow down templates that match your aesthetic.

Understanding Template Details

When viewing a template, you’ll see several important details:

Template Name and Description

A brief overview of the template’s style and what it’s best suited for.

Event Type

The type of event this template is designed for. This determines what fields will be available when you create an event (e.g., wedding templates include fields for ceremony and reception details).

Price Range

Templates are priced based on event size tiers. You’ll see a price range like “From $29.00 – $79.00” which indicates the pricing varies based on how many attendees you expect.

What’s Included

Each template typically includes:

  • Invitation design - The visual design of your invitation

  • Message templates - Pre-written messages for invitations, reminders, thank yous, etc.

  • RSVP form - A customised response form for your guests

  • Custom fields - Event-specific fields like venue, dress code, registry links, etc.

Preview Images

Most templates include multiple preview images showing:

  • The invitation design

  • How it looks on mobile devices

  • Sample RSVP pages

  • Different colour variations (if available)

Adding Templates to Your Collection

There are two ways to get access to templates:

Option 1: Subscribe

With a subscription, you get access to all templates in the library. This is ideal if you:

  • Plan multiple events

  • Want to try different designs

  • Prefer a monthly/annual payment

Buy templates one at a time with a one-time payment. This is ideal if you:

  • Only need one template

  • Have a specific event in mind

  • Prefer not to commit to a subscription

Template Availability

Active vs. Inactive Templates

Only active templates appear in the gallery. If you’ve previously purchased a template that’s no longer shown, you can still access it from your Templates page in the app.

New Templates

New templates are added regularly. Look for the “New” badge on recently added templates. Templates are marked as new for approximately 4-6 weeks after release.

Tips for Choosing a Template

  1. Match the event type - Start by filtering to templates designed for your specific event. A wedding template will have different fields than a birthday template.

  2. Consider your guest list size - Templates are priced by event size. Choose a size that accommodates your expected guest count.

  3. Preview thoroughly - Look at all preview images to understand how the invitation will appear to your guests.

  4. Think about your message needs - Some templates include more message types than others (save the dates, reminders, thank yous, etc.).

  5. Check mobile appearance - Your guests will likely view invitations on their phones. Make sure the design looks good on mobile.
